15 Ideas to Use Your FREE Coconut Oil

doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil is an all-natural carrier oil that readily absorbs into the skin, making it an ideal oil for topical delivery. Its feather-light emollient effect provides a soothing barrier without clogging pores and is excellent for dry or troubled skin. It leaves skin feeling silky smooth and non-greasy, unlike other vegetable carrier oils. Fractionated Coconut Oil is completely soluble with all essential oils and is colorless, odorless, and will not stain.

  • Apply topically to hydrate skin without interfering with your perfume or essential oil blends
  • Mix with calming oils and massage into neck and shoulders for deeper relaxation
  • Dilute stronger oils with coconut oil before applying topically to lessen sensitivity

1. Hair Conditioner. Apply to damp hair, then massage into your scalp and hair. Comb your hair to distribute the oil evenly. Put a shower cap on, tuck your hair inside, and leave the coconut oil on for at least 30 minutes. Shampoo your hair and rinse with warm water.

2. Hair Shine. Put a few drops on the palm of your hand and apply it lightly throughout your hair.

3. Makeup Remover. Apply a few drops on a cotton ball, Q-tip, or facial pad.

Cleanse & Restore for Kids

People use to believe children are born clean slates!~ well not really.  Some children are born with accumulated toxins from parents and environment.  A simple blood test can identify hundreds of toxins in their system.  Sad, I know!  Sometimes, they are born with allergies, skin problems, food intolerance, behavior problems and other health problems right away.1

What I am now learning is that our cells store toxins for many years. Toxins from drugs and medications can stay in our cells for 10 years!  Preservatives from vaccines for 40+ years!  What the…?2

Well there is hope.

Many families have found great results in helping their children achieve better health by taking the holistic approach. This means they improve the family diet, encourage better sleep and reduce toxins by using natural cleaners and health solutions such as essential oils.  One thing I love about essential oils is that they are so gentle my whole family can use and gain benefit from them.

Here is a simple 30-day Cleanse & Restore Program our team has put together from our many years of experience.  Please adjust for your children and consult your naturally minded physician before you start.  Please research and study a little about dōTERRA essential oils and the products and use it on yourself first.  Your confidence and experience will help guide your decisions on what is BEST for your children.

We noticed from the very first time we made these changes for our two small children they have been more calm and able to deal with the daily emotional stuff a whole lot better.  They hardly get sick, they focus and do well in school and they behave well (others can vouch for me too!).

We are so confident you and your family can enjoy the same wonderful benefits too.

Oil Price Per Drop

Do you share oils with others, make blends and roller bottles?  This little chart current as of 31 January 2018 may be helpful for working out how much the oils are that you use.

(*These prices are current as of 31 January 2018.   Prices for oils not available from the Australian Warehouse and only from the US Warehouse have been converted to Australian Dollars as at the 31 January 2018 rate of exchange - namely $.080AUD/$1USD.  They do not factor in the cost of shipping - only for the oil itself - those oils are Blue Tansy, Copaiba, Neroli, Rose, Jasmine and the DDR Prime).

Sun Soother

Sun Soother

A friend of mine posted this recipe just before summer this year and it has been so fabulous I just had to add it to my post. Make this cream right after sun exposure to soothe and prevent pain and irritation.

1. Get a small container like a sauce container, or an empty face cream jar (50g size jar).

2. Add the following oils:

     - 15 Drops of Lavender (helps soothe burns, calms the skin and promotes healing).

    - 8 Drops of Peppermint (helps cool the skin to reduce the itch).

    - 2 Drops of Helichrysum (helps protect skin from the sun and promotes healing).

3. Fill the rest up with a non-toxic body cream like doTERRA’s EO Spa Hand & Body Lotion.

4. Mix together!

5. Apply liberally straight after sun exposure. For irritated skin, apply every 30 minutes until soothed. For severely irritated skin, add a couple drops of Tea Tree (Melaleuca Oil) and apply for it’s natural antiseptic properties.

Back to School

Our oldest child and our only daughter Sienna started Kindergarten last year and her younger brother Ethan will start his first day of preschool next week.  It has been a time of change filled with excitement and nervous anxiety all at once.  What I do know is that I am very grateful for the skills and knowledge I have gained since I started using essential oils on my children. Only use high grade essential oils on your children.

Here are some tips myself and many other parents have found effective in helping support all of the family through this special time. (click on the table of contents to go to specific headings or simply scroll down)

When the kids sleep well, they reset, rest, and repair. We found Sienna came home exhausted just from all of the new experiences she was having throughout the day.  Sometimes overtired kids are wired kids.

These oils will help the children sleep deeply and all through the night. Use any or a combination of these oils before bed.

Lavender Peace: Put 2-3 drops in the diffuser 30 minutes before bed.

Lavender: Rub on feet and put 2-3 drops in the diffuser 30 minutes before bed.  A beautiful oil you can also add to 1 cup of Epsom salts in a warm bath.

Cedarwood: Rub on feet, forehead and put 2-3 drops in the diffuser 30 minutes before bed.

Juniper Berry: Rub on the tummy before bed. You can also put a drop under the tongue too. This is to help put the organs to bed. No more nightmares or night terrors.

Vetiver: Rub on feet, forehead and put 2-3 drops in the diffuser 30 minutes before bed.

Children grow and change in many ways during their primary school years.

As well as growing physically, children develop socially, emotionally and cognitively.

Why emotions matter? Children’s responses to the different feelings they experience every day have a major impact on their choices, their behavior, and on how well they cope and enjoy life.

Emotional development involves learning what feelings and emotions are, understanding how and why they happen, recognising one’s own feelings and those of others, and developing effective ways of managing them. As children grow and are exposed to different situations their emotional lives also become more complex. Developing skills for managing a range of emotions is therefore very important for their emotional wellbeing.

Parents and carers have an important role to play in supporting children’s emotional development. We do this through responding effectively to children’s emotions, through providing examples of how they manage feelings, and through talking with children about feelings and how to manage them.  We are so grateful to have these essential oils as a wonderful tool to support our children’s emotions and help manage their feelings and emotions.

These are some oils and blends that may help on an emotional level.  Place 2-3 drops in the diffuser, place 2-3 drops in a diffuser necklace or bracelet or dilute in fractionated coconut oil and rub on back of neck, behind ears and bottom of feet.  You can also make a blend in a roller bottle and apply to pulse points and back of the neck.

Lavender is the Oil of Communication. It is calming to the mind, allowing the brain to put words into feelings and then assisting you in conveying thoughts and feelings effectively and clearly. It puts insecurities and fears at ease.

Speech Support: Rub Lavender diluted in fractionated coconut oil on the outside of the throat to support clear confident speech. It is great for children learning to speak.

Cedarwood is a very gentle yet powerful oil.  It is very calming to the mind.  This is especially great for children who are prone to anxious feelings.  When we feel different and separated from others using Cedarwood oil can help us connect to others. It assists in feeling safe as we form bonds of love and friendship. When children are shy and do not feel comfortable making friends, I would dilute it with Fractionated Coconut Oil and massage it on their body or at least on their feet focusing on the big toes each morning before they go to school.

Juniper Berry

Juniper Berry oil helps rid of the need to worry and be self-absorbed in our own problems that is rooted in a fear of failure.  Our little daughter often will replay scenarios or the “what if’s” over and over in her mind – “what if nobody will be my friend”, “what if I can’t draw or write good”, “what if, what if, what if”!!!   Juniper Berry helps restore determination to overcome life’s obstacles and allows us to move forward rather than being stuck on the negative thoughts that keep replaying like an old record.  We need to remove those thoughts because whatever we focus on we will create.  It’s the law of attraction.  So encourage positive thoughts and diffuse 2-3 drops in the diffuser or place diluted in a roller bottle and apply to the back of neck and bottom of feet.

Through times of change support: Juniper Berry 2 drops, Cypress 3 drops, Frankincense 1 drop; dilute with fractionated coconut oil apply to sternum and back of neck and clearly state intention.

This beautiful oil has a very high (80-90%) sesquiterpene content and that means brain power!  Oils in this classification have the ability to cross through the blood brain barrier and enter the brain tissue.  Sandalwood helps the mind be calm and still and relieve excessive thinking.  When we give our mind time to think and be still we create awesome ideas.  Rub Sandalwood on the forehead, ears, back of neck and big toes. Diffuse and inhale often. Consider wearing in a diffuser necklace or bracelet.

Immunity/Hand Sanitizer

Rub any or a combination of these oils on the feet in the morning before school. Add these oils to a spritzer bottle or a roller bottle to make a natural powerful hand sanitizer for your children.  Doterra also now have a pre-diluted On Guard Hand Sanitiser spray. The chemical hand sanitizers are filled with rat poison called Triclosan.

On Guard: Rub on feet in the morning before school.

Tea Tree: Rub on feet in the morning before school.

Easy Air: Rub on feet in the morning before school. To help open airways, you can try the Easy Air vapor stick on the chest and back.

Arborvitae: Rub on feet in the morning before school.

Below is a great little immunity blend containing some of those oils that we have found amazing – Sienna did not miss one day of school last year because of having a cold or the flu!

Make this blend in a 10ml roller bottle and fill the rest with fractionated coconut oil.

Infants x1, 5yrs+ x2, Teens & Adults x3 in 10mL roller bottle

When the children get stressed (about school, from friend problems etc.) they may get some stomach issues such as indigestion. Try one or a combination of these oils. Rub on their tummy or have them drink a few drops in their water*. When the neurotransmitters in the gut are happy, the brain is too.

DigestZen: This is a blend of essential oils. Dilute with a little Fractionated Coconut oil and rub on the tummy or drink one drop in water*. Repeat every 3-4 hours if needed.

Cardamom: Dilute with a little Fractionated Coconut oil and rub on the tummy or drink one drop in water. Repeat every 3-4 hours if needed. Cardamom helps them feel like they can step back and look at their situation in a different light.

Lemon & Peppermint: Dilute with a little Fractionated Coconut oil and rub on the tummy or drink a few drops in water. Repeat every 3-4 hours if needed. Peppermint can be strong so use only one drop. Lemon helps keep the gut clean. If your children play sports then this should be in their drinking water to help them absorb water better and avoid those leg cramps.

Fennel: Dilute with a little Fractionated Coconut oil and rub on the tummy or drink a few drops in water. Repeat every 3-4 hours if needed. Fennel will help them feel more responsible and organized!!

Consider using the PB Assist Jr. daily to help them with their gut, digestion, and immunity.

Wild Orange:  This has been a great tummy tamer for us when mixed with Peppermint or the Digestzen.  Relaxes anxious muscles. Dilute with a little Fractionated Coconut oil and rub on the tummy and bottom of the feet.  Repeat every 3-4 hours if needed.   You can also add one drop to water.  Wild Orange helps let go of fear and tap into their creative side!!

Focus/ Concentration

Balance: The grounding blend. Rub on the forehead, back of neck, ears and big toes in the morning before school. Also to keep them calm and collected, put Balance in their necklace diffuser to wear throughout the day.

InTune: The focus blend. Rub on the forehead, back of neck, ears and big toes in the morning before school. Also to keep them focused, put Balance in their necklace diffuser to wear throughout the day.

Sandalwood & Frankincense: Brain connectivity oils.

Rub on the forehead, back of neck, ears and big toes in the morning before school.

Cilantro & Clove: Rub on big toes in the morning before school. This helps cleanse the cells and clear debris in the brain and body. We have a lot of toxins in our environment. Do this for 3 months, stop for 2 months and start again. On for 3 and off for 2 months.

Wild Orange & Peppermint: Diffuse when they are home and doing homework to keep them focused and alert.

You can use the TerraArmour oil blend and make a spray for your kid’s hair. Arborvitae, Melaleuca, Cedarwood, Lavender, are great oils to add to that TerraArmour blend. Mix it in a base of fractionated coconut oil and spray on hair before the kids go to school.

This is a recipe a good friend Jamie Ta has used and passed on to us and we use it everyday and LOVE it!

- 10 Drops of Peppermint Oil

- 5 Drops of Eucalyptus Oil

- 5 Drops of Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca)

- 5 Drops of Rosemary Oil

- A coin sized squeeze of DoTERRAs conditioner and

- Fill up with water!

Shake till all mixed up and enjoy!! This recipe is for a 60ml (2.oz) glass bottle spray.

Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree repel lice and insects. Tea tree is great for the scalp and Rosemary helps strengthen hair. Add a little bit of non-toxic conditioner to help detangle and smooth fly away hair.

*Internal usage not generally recommended for children under 6yrs of age.

*Always in a glass or stainless steel container
